March 24th, I teach a class on file organization and organizing at Imago Dei Crisis Pregnancy Center once a month. NAPO provides the file folders and I teach them the categories and what type of documents they go in. When finished they can take them home and start organizing. They are very grateful because they have not learned it in school.
Spent the afternoon at a doctor’s office whom the doctor is my client. She has so many projects going on that she signed up with a on-line project management software package to control all of her time-lines, to do list, etc.
Spent the evening catching up on email, making 5 assessment packages for the upcoming new clients and spending the rest of the evening with my 3 year old grandaughter. Good night!

March 21st, started off the day going to church and my 4 year old granddaughter spent the night, she went to church with us. She has advanced to the pre-school class. After church attended a mission meeting that I was picked to go the Angel House in Detroit. Went to another meeting for home fellowship groups in our home with a series “Truthful Project” from Focus on the Family.
Dined at Applebees, dropped off my grandaughter, then came home and took a nap. (Um….I love a lazy day). Got caught up on my email, twitter, linkin, facebook and blog. What else are they going to invent to keep us any busier on our day off? This is a job in it self.
I am on the Healing team at church and we have a service once a month at 6:00 which I am ready to leave. The rest of my evening will be in front of the TV watching the apprentice.

March 15th, spent the morning working on my email while my housekeeper was over cleaning. My daughter-in-law and her mother came over to take a shower because my son gutted his bathroom and has not completed it. My son Jason came over after they left and was upset because his girlfriend broke up with him with no explanation. He bought her a rose and I found it in the garbage. I took it out and put it in a vase. No sense wasting it!
This is normal activity for me. Had a doctor’s appointment at 2:30 and was running late to get my hair touched up, went to the bank, came home and ate. Went into the home office and caught up on some work. The best part is watching 20/20 “Inside the Bachelor”.
That is it for the day!

March 3rd, I wanted to make the Beef Broughon from Julia Child’s cookbook for the family out of state. My daughter and I spent 1-1/2 hours preparing just the food to make it. We had to fry bacon, saute onions, then onions and carrots, then onions and mushrooms, wash the meat, pat it dry and brown the meat before putting it all together. It took 3 cups of burgundy wine (boy that was alot), cooked it 3 hours in the oven and boiled wide noodles to pour it on.
My son came over who is a cook and he said “I want to doctor it up”. I said no way….we followed the recipe to the tee to make sure that it tasted just like hers. He was a little offended but what the heck! Everyone liked it but I will next time saute all the vegetables, all at one time and put all of it in the crock pot. Julia did not have the modern conveniences and why not use them. I loved the movie Julie and Julia and was an inspiration for me to cook something different.

March 10th, I play hand and foot cards with a wonderful group of Christian ladies once a month. We play the first game, which I won, ate lunch, everyone brings a dish, play a second game, I lost and then have dessert. We laughed about the old days when we were growing up and our Italian mothers how they would do housework, talk strick and could cook up a storm. After laughing for an hour we prayed for the needs in our group.
Came home to my granddaughter who comes over every Wednesday with her father and she spends the night. Needed to check my email and get caught up with my office business. I will spend the evening with them and watch some TV.

March 9th worked at a clients home and all receipts from Jan – June were not scanned into Neatreceipts. I thought they were all done but did not start the process until after then. Came up with the idea to add each file folder such as meals, gasoline, auto, etc., that were not in Neatreceipts, to total them and create 1 entry with the full amount. At least the amount is recorded and then can be exported to Quickbooks for a financial profit and loss report.
This will be accurate but not detailed, but the IRS will get their income tax completed on time.

The week of March 2-8th, our 3 daughters, out of state flew in and had a bridal shower for our daughter on Saturday. The shower turned out really beautiful and it was held at Big Rock in Birmingham, MI. We were all so busy the whole week I barely worked, we ate, shopped until we dropped and talked for a long time. Got up early and went to bed late and was completely out of our routines. It is nice doing that because it can get boring with everyday work, chores and daily living. When people visit or go on a vacation, you come home tired and can’t wait for the routine again to get back on track.
My daughter and I shopped at Sommerset Mall and finally found an evening gown at Macy’s. It is midnight blue, long and is very beautiful. It is really long and many of the stores who used to carry petites are now trying to stop selling them. What a bummer!
I am so behind in my office work and will probably spend all weekend getting caught up. Just wanted to give you a low down on what a professional organizer does in her personal time. Trust me, no time to get organized!

Week of March 1-3rd, Work has been slow the past week. First it was a snow storm and had to cancel appointments, clients have been very busy but can’t figure out what is going on when people are getting laid off. Oh well, that is part of the territory of being a professional organizer. It is either feast or famine, busy or slow. I can do my own organizing and catch up on projects at home. Last week I spent 3 days putting my receipts through Neatreceipts in their software package and then exporting them to Quickbooks. It takes time but saves a lot of time because the IRS recognizes the receipts as evidence of proof. I have my portion of my taxes done but my husband procrasintes until 11:00 pm on April 15th mailing the taxes. That is always a trial for me because I can’t stand to be late or be under the gun.
Yesterday my daughter flew in from Orange County, California to be here for my step daughters bridal shower on Saturday. My husbands daughters are from Dallas and San Francisco. We have them all at once or empty nest most of the time. Again feast or famine. My 2 granddaughters 3- 1/2 and 6 years old are the flower girls and they are estatic to be in the bridal party. They will be picking out their dresses this week for the wedding.
Today my daughter and I will be going to Bally’s, making the Beef Broughon from Julie and Julia to make dinner tonight with the rest of my children, granddaughters and both of the daughters. Tomorrow I have a client and then my daughter and I will be going to Somerset mall to look for a dress again! I have been to so many malls and can’t find one I like or fits. I am petite and the dress are 6-8 inches too long and cuts off most of the dress.
See you next time and thanks for reading!

February 24th, have you ever thrown your bills in a book, magazine, under piles of clutter or don’t even know where you put them? This sweet client today hired me to set up a filing system, purge old files and get her bills in order. As we entered the office her electric was shut off. We thought she blew a fuse but saw the energy car in front of the house. It was so funny because she yelled out the door and asked when her electric would be turned back on and he said it was shut off due to not paying her bill.
She went to the dollar store and bought about 10 candles to light the house because the electric would not be turned on until the next day. She was able to pay her bill over the phone.
We immediately opened all the mail and found the shutoff notice along with other bills that were past due. My recommendation for this in the future if you are experiencing the same problem is, use a basket 8″xll” and about 3″ high or more. When the mail comes in and you don’t have time to look at them, put in the basket. After several days or no longer than a week, grab the basket and start to open up the mail and put the “Unpaid Bills” in a red folder labeled as so. Rest of the mail in “Things to do” folder and if the rest is junk mail, throw away.
If you have time to glance through the mail when it comes in, throw away the junk mail immediately and don’t put the unpaid bills in the red folder before you open them first.
My 31/2 year old granddaughter spent the night last night due to her mother having a rough day. This morning I taught a class on file organization at Imago Dei Crisis Pregnancy Center. After finishing with my above client, picked up 2 pizza’s and watched a little of the olympics.

February 18th attended NAPO Michigan chapter meeting in Novi and I am head of the hospitality committee. Set up materials, food and met new visitors coming in. The meeting was on hoarding with Debbie Stanley, an icon in the industry, who just received her masters in counseling hoarders and chronically disorganized clients.
Had lunch at Pei Wei with 3 other organizers and chatted about our upcoming conference in Columbus, Ohio that we are attending.
First session with a new client to set up a filing system for her paperwork. Started sorting by categories and threw away or purged old dates. She did not have very much paper work compared to other clients, but it did take 3 hours to sort.
Next session will be setting up a filing system (SMEAD Viewables tabs) which are 3D and color coded. Came home took a nap, ate and started on my laptop, viewing email and calling clients.
Good night and sweet dreams!
